Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike Projects
WELCOME
Welcome to the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike widening projects website.
The Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (SR 821) is a southern extension of Florida's Turnpike, beginning in Florida City (Milepost 1) and ending in Miramar (Milepost 47). It was built in 1974, after the Florida's Turnpike was completed, and is used by both commuters and travelers to the Florida Keys and downtown Miami via SR 836 (Dolphin Expressway).
Today, the Homestead Extension is the most heavily traveled segment of Florida’s Turnpike. In 2008, average daily traffic exceeded 167,000 vehicles at its busiest location. Due to high traffic volumes, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise has identified the need to widen along several segments of the roadway. These projects are currently in different phases of study and we invite you to visits the links below to learn more about each project.
